Problem with consecutive Figure number placements

I am developing a document where I am inserting captions to photographs. It has worked fine up to Fig. 30 Now it has reverted to Fig.1 for the next photo when it should have gone to Fig.31. Is this because I inserted a section with two columns, then reverted to single

Captioning is done using the SEQ field. Press Alt+F9 to view field codes and check to see what the fields are for the correctly numbered Fig. 30 vs. the incorrectly numbered Fig. 31. Remember to press Alt+F9 again when you are done looking.
