Default Inserting a document without losing format. MW 2010

I created a resume online and saved it as a word document to insert it into a portfolio for a school project. If I copy and paste it, no matter which format I use, it messes up all of the alignment and erases my header on the document I am inserting it into. I tried to save it as a PDF and insert it that way, but it doesn't work. Is there anyway to insert my resume without losing the format of either document? Thank you!

The easiest way to ensure that formatting is preserved is to convert both documents to PDFs and then combining the PDFs. (For the combining, you would have to use freeware or commercial third-party software.)

Stefan gave you the simplest way to accomplish what you want.

It is possible in Word, but will require that you learn a lot about Word Sections and Styles.

Those are very good resources. For "everything" on preserving section settings, such as Page Setup, when pasting content between documents, see also the word.mvps.org article at http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting...thsections.htm.

Unhappy inserting documents into a master document

I need to submit four financial documents as one document for a grant application. In WordPerfect, there is a very easy way to insert a text document into another, but I can't find a way to do it with Word. I can't be the first person who has needed to do this, so how's it done?

Thanks! Richard

There is a master document feature in Word, but it has ever been reliable.

Combining multiple documents into one could be as easy as copy and paste, but it all depends on which result you want, and that, in turn, depends on the formatting in the source documents.

Thumbs down yet another small inefficiency

In WordPerfect, 4 clicks to insert a document (or photo or whatever). 8 clicks to insert a text document with Word (I figured out how to do it, as you suggest, with copying and pasting). A triumph of marketing over user-friendliness.

Unfortunately, some commands are buried more deeply in the hierarchy now that we are using the ribbon interface (compared to the old menu interface), yes. I can't comment on WordPerfect, because I've never used it.

Note, however, that copy and paste can be done quickly with keyboard shortcuts.

Again, the best approach depends on what you want to achieve. It is possible to maintain separate documents and bring them together using INCLUDETEXT fields. For that purpose you can use the Insert File dialog box.
