The Ribbon versions of Word all allow insertion of a Cover Page. They also allow Page X of Y pagination using fields. Those fields do not act the same in different versions of Word if there is a Cover Page inserted using the Cover Pages gallery.
I finally sat down with the three ribbon versions of Word and tried the various page number fields in a document with a Cover Page. I was surprised. I put the results at
Cover Pages and Page Numbering.
Of particular note: Word 2010-2013 set the cover page as page 0. Word 2007 counts it as page 1. SectionPages and DocProperty Pages count the cover page in Word 2010-13 while NumPages does not. It does not insert a Section break in any version, it uses a manual page break.
This is not a question. It is posted for information.
