Default Numbering levels don't print correctly

Hi,

I have a number of tables where I want to number each row using third-level numbering.

i.e.
Code:
1.1.1
1.1.2
1.2.1
1.2.2
1.2.3

*new table*

2.1.1
2.1.2
2.1.3
2.2.1
2.2.2

etc.
I've accomplished this by inserting numbering into the first column, indenting it to force it to third level, and then using "Set Numbering Value" to restart the first or second levels where required.

When editing, this displays exactly how I want it.

However, when I print, or use Print Preview, the first / second levels of numbering are displayed separately each time the first or second levels of numbering restarts.

i.e.
Code:
1
 1.1
   1.1.1
   1.1.2
 1.2
   1.2.1
   1.2.2
   1.2.3
Does anybody have any ideas?

EDIT: My colleague tried this and it printed fine on hers. We're using the same versions of Word, and we have the same default printer.

"Set numbering value" makes use of hidden text (or, more specifically, it increments the numbering by adding numbered items which are formatted as hidden). On your computer, make sure that the option to print hidden text is turned off (Office button | Word Options).

If "Set numbering value" uses hidden text, there appears to be a difference in the Word 2010 and Word 2013.

Modify the Style of Heading 1,2,and/or 3 | Format Button | Numbering | choose a Numbering Format | OK button.

In the document, if I adjust the Number for a paragraph - with Style Heading #|
Choose ONLY the Number on the paragraph - Right Click "Set numbering value"
Prompt for "Changing the number format for this list updates the style "Heading 2" and reapplies the style to each paragraph. Do you want to continue?" Yes button

With Show/Hide set to Show in Word 2013 - I see the additional empty paragraphs above the paragraph I set the value on.
In Word 2010, the empty paragraphs do not appear.

Undocumented feature?

In the Set Numbering Value dialog box, do not choose the "Start new list" option.

Instead, click "Continue from previous list," select "Advance value (skip numbers)" and then type in the number to which you want numbering to advance.

When I pick the "Continue..." option, I get hidden paragraphs in both Word 2010 and Word 2013 and no prompt to update the style.
