Default Content control in developer questions

Hi,

I'm creating a master spec for our company and am adding "fill in" and drop down boxes throughout the spec (which is approx 60 pages) using content control in the developer tab. I have a few questions though.

1. Is it possible to edit the font of the fill in box text (ie. the "click here to enter text" font) and make it the default font? I'd like to make the fields more identifiable when scrolling though the document. Perhaps making the entire field highlighted yellow or text in red.

2. Is there a shortcut key to scroll through or jump to the next fill in box?

3. Is it possible to have an alert pop up when trying to save or print the document to notify the user that there are blank fields?

4. Is it possible when adding a drop down menu, to have a choice to select blank?

Thanks in advanced for the help!

The answer to all these questions is yes. You should read up on Content Controls at Greg Maxey's website. Here are a couple of links that answer some of those questions directly

http://gregmaxey.com/word_tip_pages/..._controls.html
http://gregmaxey.com/word_tip_pages/...avigation.html

And this link goes beyond what you asked but will probably also want to use

Thanks, a lot of that is helpful but looks like I almost need to sign up for a CC course just to figure out how use all those functions!

I just found out there are character limits for the drop down menus which has brought me to a hault. It's really irritating that you can't have drop down content options and when one is selected, the text you entered appears. In the master spec I'm writing, I want to have the option to select, for example, 1 of 3 optional clauses in one section that may be several paragraphs long or have multiple section within...

option (1)
2.34.5 whatever text
.1 more crap
.2 even more crap

option (2)
2.34.5 some different text
.1 with different crap

option (3)
2.34.5 more different text
.1 some stuff
.1 even more stuff

So all I would see in the drop down menu is option 1 - 3 but when selected, all the applicable text would appear. Is there a way to set that up without being a XML mapping expert?

To do that you first create each options text and store them as a building blocks. Then you add a building block gallery content control and point it at the relevant category. The Maxey link that goes into all the gory detail is http://gregmaxey.com/word_tip_pages/..._autotext.html

It really isn't as complicated as that whole article appears since it includes a huge amount of background info and code samples. If it gets overwhelming, just read the sections Creating New Building Blocks and Building Block type content control
