Word 2003, SP 2 - Word newbie.
I have an image on a Word document that I want to automatically annotate with data from 2 tables already on the document in specific locations on the image. The tables are used like mini spreadsheets. My approach was to put a 3rd table on top of the image. Then turn off the lines of the table. That works but the problem is that the document(RTF format) is written back to a program that pulls the data out of the 3rd table, currently overlaying the image, and writes the data below the undisturbed image. I can't change how the other program works because I have no access to the source code. Is there a way to convert the image with the overlay table on top of it and convert it to a new image and replace the image on the document with the new merged image. That way the other program will not be able to pull the data out of the overlay table since it will now be a part of the image. I would also remove the 3rd table overlaying the old image. I hope what I am describing is clear. I'm open to other suggestions and approaches. |

It's as clear as mud. Can you attach a sample document so we can at least get some idea of what is involved (Go Advanced to attach a document).

The attachment screen says the max size is 500 kb and my document is over 1 meg.
Maybe there is an easier way to do what I want. Can a table have a background with an image on it? That way the image is part of the table, just in the background. I don't want the image in a cell. I want it as the background filling the entire table. |

The 'usual' solution would be to build the composite image in other software and then import the graphic into Word so there wasn't any further work to do on it.
I would try putting the image and the table into a drawing canvas and seeing if that solves your problem when exporting to RTF. If that didn't work, I would make the composite image as large as possible and either screen capture(copy as picture?) it and paste it back in. You could also try cutting and then see what PasteSpecial options you have to paste it back in. AFAIK you can't put an image as a table background but you can do that in HTML (and the Microsoft programmers sometimes want to pretend that Word creates useful HTML so it might be possible).
