Hi Thanks for your reply

When I say precedents I mean pre typed word documents that our secretary's use on a daily basis. We recently changed systems and are now starting to use office 2013. They were working fine but its now seemed to of defaulted certain documents to 8 1/2 x 11 when they use to be on A4.

I urge you to look into the use of custom document templates rather than precedents. They cut way down on errors creeping into your documents.
Templates in Microsoft Word
See especially Workgroup Templates.
