Unhappy Word 2011 for Mac - Setting Default Shapes

Good afternoon everybody,

So I'm currently using Microsoft Word 2011 for my Mac, and I can set the default shape for lines, circles, and squares. BUT, when it comes to setting a default text box or "squiggly" line, even after I select "set as default" after right-clicking, it doesn't seem to save what I just changed in the document.

Now I'm talking even for the same document I have open. I'm aware that for a universal change, I would need to create and save a new template. But, even on the same document, setting a new default text box and "squiggly" lines (or some other shapes) just won't set to the default I want them to.

Any help would be fantastic. This is starting to drive me crazy as I use a ton of shapes for the university courses I am currently in.

Thanks guys.
