ok, I've tried adding text form fields, but am having a problem populating these fields.

Please see attached. The values in red, yellow and green have been populated by double-clicking the text form field and populating the values in the pop-up dialogue box. But I don't want the users to do this. I simply want them to be able to click in the field and type the value.

For Blue, I placed the cursor in the leftmost position in the field and typed, but this puts the value outside the field. When I simply click on the field and type (purple) the text form fields disappears and simply enters the number to the cell.

I have design mode switched off. What am I doing wrong? Is there some kind of other setting or default I may have switched on/off which is preventing me from simply clicking in the field and typing?

any help much appreciated.
