Default Word 2010 Cross reference - remove tabs

Hi all

I have headings in a document like the following
5 <tab> England
5.1 <tab> London

When I insert a cross reference to a heading (insert reference to heading text) the cross reference includes the tab.

Is there a way of removing the tab in the cross reference and for all occurrences?

Many thanks.

Kenneth

Use Automatic numbering (which will include a tab or indent when used) and insert a reference to the heading.

If you do want to use manual numbering, you can enclose the range you want to cross-reference in a bookmark, and then insert a cross-reference to the bookmark text.

If you follow Stefan's suggestion (which may be easier) you will need two cross-references, one to the number and one to, the text, separated by a space. There is no way to delete a manually inserted tab with a single cross-reference that includes the number + tab + text.

Of course, I should have mentioned that it will be necessary with one cross-reference for the number and another for the text.
