Automatically applying character style while using fast style feature

Hi community,

I was wondering if there was a way to automatically apply a character style while using fast styling, like Bold or Italic.
I know it's possible to create char styles, and then to use advanced search/find feature to apply these styles to formatted text, but I wish there was a way to automate it.
