Hi everyone
Hope I am posting this in the right place. I really, really need help. I have several hundred pages. I have lines that are in bold and italic like this: Who are these foreign investors? What I need to do is change each line that is in Italic and Bold to having brackets around it, like this [Who are these foreign investors?] Is there any possible way to do this with find/replace? I would really, really appreciate any thoughts! Thanks! Greg |

You may wish to work on a copy of your document, but this is working for me:
In find: (*)^13 In replace: [\1]^p Try one at a time. If it's working, use Replace all. ^13 is used for a paragraph break in the Find. \1 means replace what was found. Best, Ulodesk |

What would the s/r terms be if the bold/ital entries were styled? Reading this post, I realise that this handy 'wrap found text in square brackets' is something I could do in a text editor but have never stopped to think about doing in Word.

Well, Paul Edstein and others may know better, but the same dropdown in the F/R dialogue that lists Font, lists Style. Apply relevant style to each.

Exactly. The F/R only becomes an issue if you want the square brackets to be formatted differently.
