Document keeps turning into a "Read only"

I am working on a very long document and every so often when I go to save it a message comes up saying that it is only a "Save Only" document. I get away with it by copying it, pasting onto another sheet and giving it a different name but surely I shouldn't have to do this. Whats causing the problem?
