Recently, my word documents had been showing these gray "border markers"( I have no idea what those are actually called) and I can't remove them no matter how much I try. Do anybody know how I can fix this?

File > Options > Advanced > Show document content > Uncheck 'show text boundaries'.
There is also another language related issue that is covered below that may be still be relevant. "Margin marks or crop marks appear on each corner of the page when you open a document in Word 2002 or in Word 2003" See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=839371
