Hello,
I am trying to link an excel cell to a macro enabled word document. I tried using paste special option, but for some reason the update field option does appear when i close and re open the document. I'm guessing there would be other ways to link an excel cell to word. Could this be possible with quick parts in word. Thank You! Have a Nice Day. |

Are you creating the link in code, or manually? If you're using code, please post that portion (using the code tags on the 'Advanced' screen).

Did you check the 'paste link' option when doing the paste special?

Yes. I have selected paste link then clicked unformatted text.
I'm not sure, but Quick parts in word seem to be useful. Can we link a cell using quick parts. Thanks Have a nice day! |

Well, you could create a custom quick part containing the link, but I fail to see how this would be much use - the quick part would always be coded to that specific link.

That's done by copying the cell, then pasting into Word using Paste Special, with the 'paste link' option. However, without knowing what you're wanting to achieve beyond that basic aspect, there's little more I could add.

Thank you for replying.
In one cell of my excel sheet there exists customer name which gets updated from time to time. And i need to enter the same customer name in a word document. So i'm trying to link the cell to word. I just used the above method (paste special>Paste link). But, When i close and reopen the word document i don't see the update link option in context menu. Further it says "This object is corrupt or is no longer available". Both the excel file and word document are macro enabled documents. I suspected this could be the reason, for word not updating the link. So i saved the word macro enabled document in regular format of word 97-2003 document. Then i see the link working as intended. Though i found solution, this will not help as my word document contains content that needs macros enabled. Other things which i ensured to make the link work properly is placing both documents in same folder. Hence i was asking about quickparts as the above method is not working. Any help or suggestion will be valuable for me. Thanks. |
