Default Turning a manual written Table of content into automatic one.

Hello, first of all thank you for your help.

I started writing my thesis and created a manual table of content in the style like this.

1. dsfadf
1.1 asfdasdf
1.1.2 adfasfasf
2. safadfaf
2.1 sdfadadafdf

I have encountered two problems while trying to use the automatic table of content tool.

1. Word seems to add in everyone of my bulletpoints as a part of the table of content....so all my text.
2. How do i create an automatic table of content in the style shown above?

Thanks again
Amro
