Hello all,
By underscores, I mean the character you type when you press Shift and the key next to zero on the keyboard, you know, the shift part of the hyphen key. In the attached picture, there are two places underscores don't show up, and I've circled them in red. Yet there's one place where they do show up. I've tried copying the "good" underscores to where the "bad" underscores are and they turn invisible. I've tried removing formatting from the invisible underscores (select, Ctrl-Space) with no resulting change. Any guesses? |

Can you attach a document with the problem? (Just copy what you've shown into a blank document if you want and attach that.)

Next time I'll do that. I tried one more thing: selecting the underscored part and pressing Ctrl-U and voila - the underscores appeared. It doesn't make sense since I had already removed extra formatting but it worked. I've tried to do the same thing to make the underscores disappear, but that just makes them underlined. Go figure.

Ctrl-U is not underscores, it is underlining formatting of the text. Underscores are actual characters.

I know. That's why it's so weird that it worked.

I'm having this problem again and the Ctrl-U trick didn't work. I'm attaching the doc.
What I want is text that gives the first letter of a country and then spaces to show how many more letters are in the name of the country, à la hangman. Example: C _ _ _ _ (for Chile) P _ _ _ (for Peru) V _ _ _ z _ _ _ _ I've copied the P line that has underscores, but when I paste it, the underscores don't appear! Weird and frustrating. |
