Bingo! I should have known that. I was using text before and that is why the format tab was there.

Glad we solved one problem, at least. You've got me on the document 2 at opening, if this is happening even when you first log in, The implication is that Doc 1 has already been created in that session. Maybe someone else has an answer to that one.
