Default Word 2003 status bar, odd items

"Status bar" may not be accurate; and this may apply to other Office versions.

The attached image appears at the bottom of the Word screen. The first icon flyover text is shown above it, "Cancel print job." The second little icon has no flyover text.

Anyone know what it's saying? I'm not aware that there's any printing "on hold" or "in the background" and the (Control Panel) Printer "folder" is empty (the list of queued print jobs). Also, no documents are open!

FWIW the tools/options screen is also shown.

Your terminology is correct; that is the status bar. This indicates that there is a spooled print job. What happens if you double-click it?

Thanks for the good fast answer. The last time I specifically spooled a print job was about 1989. I'm not sure how to handle this mystery item. (BTW, It doesn't respond to double clicking)

Great link! Way to go!!

If you really want to get to the bottom of it, start by starting Word in safe mode. You can do that by holding the Ctrl key down when you start Word. Is the icon still there?

...and they do not reappear in normal mode. So whatever you were going to suggest next, it won't work now! (Until I can reproduce the condition) So it's fixed, and thanks.

You are welcome. By default, Word spools print jobs. That may have even been to a printer you no longer have.Glad you got it worked out.
