Given you say multiple word processors give the same result, it's quite possible the content is formatted as hidden text. In Word - and other word processors - it's quite possible to have text formatted as hidden visible, yet not print (or vice-versa). Another possibility is that the text has been created with 'Track Changes' on and your document is only configured to print the original text (i.e. nothing).
