Post Can you Lock part of a Word Doc?

I am working within a template in Word and trying to enter some preliminary information, lock it, send it to others and allow them to enter additional information without being able to change the previously locked information and then print the whole document out.

Is this possible to lock part of a Word document without using the Header Footer tools?

First Template is different from document.
Templates in Microsoft Word
Templates are something to use in creating documents, not something normally sent elsewhere.

Second, don't have a clue what Header/Footer Tools have to do with protecting a document.

Third, yes. Use the Developer Tab and restrict editing. Make the areas you want others to be able to edit "Exceptions." This assumes they will be using Word 2007 or later.

Note, you can also enable Track changes, put the document in Final view mode, and lock that before you send it to them. That way, when you get it back, you can very easily see what was changed, and perhaps by whom. This is under the Review Tab.

Default Thank you

Thank you, the developer tab is what I was looking for.
The template is an internal company template we are adding to a Word document.
The header and footer was just an idea that was thrown around for laying the information but I understand would not lock it.

You users should not be opening the template. They should be creating a document based on the template. That is the purpose of templates. One of the advantages is that it makes the template harder to change accidentally.

For repeating the preliminary information typed into it, look at the StyleRef Field and Repeating Data (Populating Multiple Like Fields),

You may also be talking about adding a Cover Page quickpart by storing it in a Global Template so it would be available in all documents.
