Default Unwanted Style Changes in 2007

Hi

I'm a writer and my normal way to write is to put each chapter as a separate file, then compile them all at the end. However, whenever I use the automatic 'insert text' I get some odd glitches. Specifically, there are always two lines between the top of the page and the chapter header and, when I try to delete them, the style changes back to the original setting.

Does anyone know how to prevent it? Because it's really undoing the benefits of the whole system.

Chris

Are you using Insert as Link which inserts an INCLUDETEXT field referencing the content? In that case, I'd start looking for excessive paragraph marks in the source document.

I don't think so.

What are you using then, specifically? How do you insert the files?

I think I might have done that, sorry.

Thing is, there aren't any paragraph changes, as far as I can tell. Is there a way to set the style to always default to my preferred version?

If you pasted in the text, the default is to use the formatting in the target document.

Sometimes it's a good idea to simply reverse the process: if you have text in document A that you want to merge with text in document B, but you want the formatting of A, copy the text from B into A instead of the opposite.
