embed excel cells in Word, format won't stay

I am trying to embed individual cells within a section of text, but Word keeps adding paragraph before and after the cell every time I change its value in excel.

Is there a way to keep the cell inside a paragraph and not have the paragraph tags added?

You need to change the embedded link format to, say, Formatted Text (RTF).
