Thanks for responding. Actually, I've used Word almost since its inception and have in past lives worked with many of its features. I just don't want them now. My very functional Word XP died with my old computer and my new computer came with Word 7. XP had an easy way to rip all the formatting out of things and it was remarkably good at it. I just can't find the right button for it here. I did know about the solution you suggested and had tried it with no luck. That's why I thought I would ask on this forum. Ditto the extra line spacing problem. I've followed the instructions but haven't fixed the problem.
