Hello friends,



I am new to the forum and look forward to your help. Hope to be a contributing member to the forum.

I am running windows 8, and have MS word 2007.

For some reason the working area is not loading in word. When I open word it just opens the non working (blue) area.

Can someone tell me the possible reasons for this and how to fix it? PPT, Excel etc are working fine.

Please see attachment for a screenshot of the problem.

Is there a document open? (What is shown in the title bar?)
If not, are you opening in Safe Mode?
Which Tab is active?

Charles: In the screenshot, it appears no document is open (no title on the title bar) and the Home tab is active.

Smarty470: If Word is being started from a desktop shortcut, it's possibly being started with the:
• /a switch, which starts Word and prevents add-ins and global templates (including the Normal template) from being loaded automatically.
• /n switch, which starts a new instance of Word with no document open.
• /safe switch, which starts Word in safe mode.
It's also possible to start Word this way from a macro.

So the first thing you need to tell us is how you're starting Word and, if it's via a shortcut, what the 'Target' properties of that shortcut are.

For some reason, I didn't see the screenshot.
Word 2007 in /a mode starts with a new blank document. In Safe Mode, it does not but normally shows "Safe Mode" in the title bar.

What happens if you press Ctrl+N to create a new document?
