Yes, thanks. As you can see from my edit, dragging the text is the solution I happened upon as a lucky guess. But how could the pilcrow ever get attached to the table? I typed it into the text, not into the table itself. Moreover, to make the first line of text beside the table line up with the top of the diagram it contained, I placed another pilcrow between the offending pilcrow and the line of text next to the table and reduced its font size so the text and diagram top lined up perfectly. So there was a separate pilcrow between the offending pilcrow and the table.
