Smile Unwanted Hard Returns when using Heading Styles

Hello,

I am trying to create a document within a tight timeframe. I set up numbered headings by creating a new Multilevel List and linked the headings to it. Everything was fine until I tried to insert body text between the headings. When I press 'enter', it moves the heading directly under the line to the next page. It doesn't happen every time, it seems to be rather random. I am on a tight schedule and need to resolve this as quickly as possible.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A.

Sorry for any confusion...I should have said, I am hard returning at the end of the line w/ the heading in it, and instead of moving to the next line, Word creates a page break and takes me to the top of the next page.

Please help. Thanks.

Are the numbered heading styles defined with a Style for following paragraph? could be that second style that's sneaking in a page break, either directly or because the second style has a Keep with next. Good luck!

Look at the paragraph formatting of the heading that gets moved to the next page. Most upper-level headings have the paragraph formatting set to "keep with next" and this is appropriate.

If that is what is happening, try putting an empty body-text level paragraph between each heading.

Headings are not intended to be the only text in a document. If you want them to be the only text, remove the formatting for "keep with next." If not, use the empty paragraph until you fill in some body text.
