Default Spellcheck not checking all Sections

Hi guys

I have a reasonably large document (circa 12MB), but which is mostly images and screenshots (only ~11000 words). It is split up into sections using section breaks so that I can apply different page numbers etc. and with page breaks to keep it looking nice. I have created everything within the document, no copying and pasting of text, and I am working with show characters on to ensure everything is formatted correctly.

However, I am noticing words which I have misspelled appearing within the sections towards the end of the document. These are obvious mispellings, like anaylse, so they shouldn't be in the dictionary, and it is appearing for every word. I can type the same word in an earlier section of the document, and spellcheck works exactly as I anticipate it would. I can then retype the word in a later section with no red flag from the spellcheck. To my uneducated brain, it appears that spellcheck has given up towards the end of the document.

I can't find any settings or anything to look for to confirm this though. Does anyone have any ideas of a fix, or even where to start looking at in the first instance for a diagnosis why.

Cheers.

I've solved it. I think it was something to do with proofing language settings.

I'm not entirely sure how it came about, but selecting the entire document and then review-language-set proofing language and then unticking the "do not check" reset the whole document to enable spell checking.

Sorry for the triple post.

Actually, whilst the method described in the previous post works to reset the spell checking, over time the "do not check" appears to be reactivated. I am not pasting anything into the document other than screenshotted images. Does anyone have ideas why this is?

Thank you.

Check the attached template (under the Developer Tab). Is the box checked to update styles from template? If so, uncheck that.

Hi Charles, thank you for your reply.

I can't find a checkbox saying "update styles from template" verbatim, but under the document template option on the developer tab, there is a box saying "automatically update document styles", which is already unchecked. Is this the same thing?

Yes, it is. If that is already unchecked, as it should be, I can't think of what else would be reviving this in your documents.

Could you post a sample document with proprietary and confidential information removed?

Strangely, I can't recreate the error either within my original document nor in a cut-down version I was going to upload. I have been checked and unchecked various boxes though, so may the act of that has triggered Word to refresh a preference or something...

In the original document, it appeared to reset the proofing language on opening, but even that hasn't manahed to recreate it.

If it does again however, I will upload a copy. Until then though, we might have to say it is resolved...
