I believe you'd do better to change the Window colour via the Windows Control Panel, as that will apply to all applications. In any event, changing the template colour also means you'll be changing the printout colours of all your documents for whoever reads them.
To change the Window colour via the Windows Control Panel, Got to Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Personalization>Window Color and Appearance>Advanced appearance settings>Item:Window, then choose a colour more suited to your preferences. Note the numerous other visual settings you can change there too.
