Been using the last (VERY old) free version of SnagIt for years, and recently, Jing (which is sortof the successor to SnagIt) also from TechSmith, to do quick partial screen shots when a full screen shot is not wanted. I had to do one just now to grab a series of shots to paste into a Word 2010 doc, and noticed that they all were exactly the same maximum width (about 640 px) no matter how wide the original was (about 885 px on my 1280/1024 monitor). The doc was in landscape mode, plenty of room for it to go in full size but it always pastes in as 640px. I realized all of this when one of a set of shots I was doing had significantly smaller text on the paste, even tho the originals were pretty much the same size except for width.
Did some poking in SnagIt, and there was a preference for screen width, but apparently that only applies to full screen shots because making it wider than 640 did nothing. Jing had no such option that I could tell but its shots fit the same pattern. Tried 3 or 4 other apps, but all worked the same. After doing some research, apparently this problem is not in the screenshot apps, but is rather a Word issue that was fixed in Office 2013. Is this correct? And is there any kind of workaround? I don't want to have to save each and every quick screenshot as a file when all it needs to do is show up in Word. TIA elaine Ivy, VA |

Is it possible that Word's Image size and Quality setting is affecting this? See Word/Options/Advanced/Image size and Quality.

Hmm, both checkboxes were NOT set and the "default target output" was 221 ppi, the highest value in the drop. I did try checking the second box, "do not compress images in file" but it didn't help. A test paste still came in at that same size and hard to read. I would have thought it would at the very least paste to the margins of the document, but apparently not?
