Office 2003/2010 compatibility is not an issue here. Rather, the Ctrl-spacebar effect demonstrates that the affected changes were done manually and not using Track Changes. You could use Find/Replace to delete all strikethrough text and possibly one or more other Find/Replace operations to reformat the 'inserted' text.
