The fact that it goes to another page means it is being pushed forward.

If I understand it, you have things underlined after the text, and then you want to put text after the word. Well then that underlined IS text, so if you want to put text after the word you must REPLACE (using OverType) that text. If you just put text in after the word then that underlined text is...pushed forward.
