Hello,
I'm a student working on my thesis, and having some trouble with the set up of my final document. I want to create a new document where the first page has to have a layout defined by my university. I need to use their title page with logo of the university, etc... In other words, I need to take that page (with its own layout) from a document and put it in my empty new word doc. After that first page, I want to use a different layout, with different margins, etc... As if the first page has no influence at all on the rest of the document, but is still there in the same document. I tried "insert object" and then took the word doc with the "university" page, but that didn't give the right results. Any idea of how I should do this? Thanks in advance ![]() |

Hi
I am not sure what issues you are having. However what you could do is copy the title page from the document you want to use for your title page and paste it as an image. Not pasting it as an image will result in the page picking up style settings from your document and overwrite the existing ones. For example you may have a "Normal" style in your document that differs from the other document. This means that all settings from the original will be overwritten by your own documents settings. Hope this helps. Good luck. Tony |

Using a page-size graphic doesn't sound like a good idea to me! Perhaps you could take their cover page, then insert a section break and continue with your own styles and layout. Check that style-names you want to use aren't already defined in the cover page: if it's really a cover page, I wouldn't expect any overlap with your body text. You could also tell us a bit more about "doesn't give the right results".

This is what section breaks are for. See Sections / Headers and Footers in Microsoft Word 2007-2013.
Specifically, you may want to look at How to set up a document with front matter 2007. This gives step-by-step instructions. Under no circumstances should you use Word's Master Documents "Feature" with your thesis. |
