Unhappy Keeping source formatting in Word 2003

Hi there! I have a problem that just recently started occurring. I have never had this problem in the past 10 years. All of a sudden, when copying and pasting from an open document into a new document, the margins change to those of the new document. I have tried "Paste Special" but the margins still change. I am highlighting the entire contents of the old document and opening a new document and then pasting. The font and general format of the page stays the same; however, the top, bottom, and side margins do not. I would greatly appreciate any assistance with this, as I transcribe for a living and this is driving me absolutely batty!!!
