Can you please help me in figuring out how odd/even section breaks work and what you need them for.

So I'm reading on MS support:

So if I understand correctly, the only time you need them is when you want to make sure that your new section will always start on an odd-numbered page (or even-numbered page, in case of an even page section break), even if it means having an extra blank page inserted. Other than that, they are absolutely identical to regular section breaks (next page). Am I right?

(I used to think you used them to make footers/headers different for odd/even pages but no, you actually do it by checking the "Different Odd & Even Pages" option on the Header/Footer menu.)

Okay, let's imagine you can make use of this behavior once in a while. But it's NOT working for me like described.

When I insert an odd page section break, for example, all it does is re-number the document and skips the even page, basically breaking the numbering in the document. So the page numbers go like that:

It does NOT insert a blank page (Page 4), it just skips it.

Am I doing something wrong?
