I Have a read-only word document that is used across the network by everyone, the *.doc contains a link to an excel sheet that using vlookup, etc changes links within the letter.

All this works fine but on closing the document an instance of excel.exe is still running.

My problem is how do I break this link and close the excel instance running in the background
