Default Issue with Find/Replace with Notes

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to do a find and replace with footnote numbers, changing the white space after the note number to a tab space.

I have checked the wildcards box, and I am using this:

Find: ^2 {1,}
Replace: ^2^t

The tab space replaces correctly, but in the process, the footnote number turns into a square. (Please see the attached image for a clear view of the problem.)

Is there a way to do this find and replace without this problem? I am using Word 2013 on Windows 8 64 bit. Thank you in advance for any assistance that you can provide!

Outside my comfort zone, but I suspect footnote/hope numbering is automatic. If that is so, then you need to change the style rather than the text. Search this forum for tips on where to find tips about numbering; it's a popular topic ;-}

Sorry I can't give you an immediate answer.

Hi, cheech. The only thing I can suggest is, along the lines of the previous response, is to modify the Footnote Text style to have a left tab set for whatever you wish, say, 0.3", and when type your footnote text, just start with a tab.

I tried recording a macro to replace all space+tabs with tabs, but it didn't work. Someone who can write VBA codde may be able to create one for you.

Best,
Ulodesk

Thank you both for your responses. I'm just going through them manually, but I learned a couple things in the process that maybe I can use in the future. Thanks again!
