Windows Vista Word file type in 2007

Take a .DOCX file. Right-click on it. Open with...
Pick Microsoft Word and make sure the box is checked to open documents of this type with program.
Do same with a .DOC file.

If this doesn't work, I'm seriously suspecting a virus.
