Deleting anything, not just spaces, counts as an edit in Word. In other words, with Track Changes activated, the space will be "marked for deletion," as opposed to actually being deleted. What you can do is select a space and accept the change (Review tab | Accept | Accept Change).

Thanks, Stefan.
But in my previous version of Word, the deletions (whether of text, spaces, page breaks or whatever) would take effect in the text, while the deleted content would appear in boxes on the right hand side of the screen. Is that not possible with 2007? Regards Richard |

On the Review tab, click Track Changes, and then click Change Tracking Options. Set "Deletions" to "(none)." In the "Use Balloon (Print and Web Layout)" box, select "Always." Does that do what you want?
