It sounds like a method.
Be aware that converted documents should not be used as templates (or as the basis for new documents). They are very messy even if they look fine. The conversion process is inexact. See Word for Word Perfect Users.

If I want to make a template from a converted (or scanned) document I save it as plain text and then format that text using Styles and then save it as a template. This is time-consuming but in the long run will save time and grief.
