Thumbs up Table of contents Numbering/formatting help

Hi
I have a Table of Contents in my MS Word document, and I am struggling to get the numbering right, as when the numbering of the sections goes into double digits, the indentation of the section titles in the TOC changes.

It is showing like this

Quote:
...
8 Section 8.................................Page 13
9 Section 9.................................Page 15
10 Section 10................................Page 18
11 Section 11................................Page 22
...
and I want it to show like this:
Quote:
...
8 Section 8...............................Page 13
9 Section 9...............................Page 15
10 Section 10..............................Page 18
11 Section 11..............................Page 22
...
(with extra spacing before the title on the single digit numbering)

thanks for any advice or suggestions

You can adjust your TOC style so that all text will align. Simply right-click on the TOC style (i.e., TOC 1, TOC 2, etc.) then select "modify". At the "Format" drop-down menu (lower left-hand corner), select the "Tabs" option. Set your tab to the desired stop position (reviewing the alignment and leader options) and select OK.

You use the same instructions as mention before. Setting the tab for the page numbers should be aligned to the right-hand margin (alignment option) and, if you want a leader between the ending of the topic title to the page number, select the leader desired (leader option). Select OK when you have your desired options.

thanks but where is the option for the Page numbers please?

When I choose Modify Style I get the dialog, and at the bottom right is the Format drop down. On that list I previously selected 'Tabs' and added 1.25 cm to get the words lined up.

Where in the Modify Styles dialog do I find the part that will restore the leading ..... after the Section headings, and re-align the page nos. to the right

Thanks very much for your assistance...

In the "SAME MENU". When you set the first tab to adjust for the numbering, your other tabs/page numbers moved to the next line. Now that you set your first tab, you have to adjust you page number tab. You do that using the same menu and defining where you want your page numbers to be "tabbed" to. Once you set that tab, click Ok and you should be done.
