Default Unable to fill in form fields

I have created a form with some regular and rich text controls and a date picker. This is created as a template (dotx-file). In the template-file everything works as expected and I can test-fill out the form.

When I create a new document based on the template with the form, the form fields are just displayed as normal text. They don't act like form fields that I can fill in and tab between.

Am I missing something? I get the form action when I save the template as a document instead. But doing it this way means that we can't utilize the template concept in Word and risk overwriting the original document with the form.

Any pointers?
