I had a very strange problem with pics resolution.
I typed a text in MS Word 2007 and I needed to insert pictures "from File". I had saved my pics in TIFF format, 1600 dpi resolution, exported from the Musical Notation software called 'Finale'. The problem was this: The TIFF pic was originally inserted intact and in high resolution, but after I shut down the MS Word and got back again, the TIFF pic was in lower resolution appearing sort of "ruffled" or trimmed and in low quality. I went through the same process over and over, but no use. The pics would always appear worse, everytime I closed down the MS Word and got back to it again. I tried the same on OpenOffice 3.3 and it worked right; The pic I inserted, as a test, looked fine and clear when I reopened the program. Do you have any ideas, PLEAAAAAAAAAAAASE?

The maximum resolution supported by the docx format used by Word 2007 & later is 220dpi. Images with more than that will be down-scaled. The older doc format used by Word 2003 & earlier doesn't change the resolution.

Oh, thanks a lot! But tell me, what if I re-installed MS Word 2003 or 2000? Would this solve my problem or not?

You can run an earlier version of Office with Office 2007, but you must install the earlier one first. In any event, the older doc format (which Word 2007 & later can use) doesn't have the same resolution limits.

That said, no-one needs an image with a 1600dpi resolution. At normal reading distances, few can discern better than 400dpi for high-contrast line art, or around 270dpi for colour photos and the like.

An alternative, if you're using a postscript printer, is to insert the images in eps format, which sends the embedded data direct to the printer without Word de-resolving it.

Another alternative, if your image suits, is to save it in a vector format and insert that into Word.

Ok, it looks to work this way. I save the 2007 word document in 2003 format, close it, reopen it and insert the pic again. When I close it now and get back to it, I see that my pics are shown in high resolution. . . don't know how much, but absolutely higher and in better quality! Thanks again for your helping advice ! ! ! I'm really grateful!
