I've two users on my network using Word 2003 on Windows XP SP2, and both have got this problem within the last week.
When they open a document in Word, the Open dialog box always defaults to the Desktop and not to their last save location. It's only happened recently and it's very frustrating for them Does anyone know how to fix it? I've tried reinstalling, repairing, and also tried replacing the Normal.dot file. Many, many thanks. |

I no longer have Word 2003, but with 2007, I would go to Office Symbol (top left) > Word Options > Save > Default File Location to see what I had there and make any changes that was not what I wanted
I suspect with 2003, this is located under Tools > Options >... Does things look fine in this area for you? |

Thanks zyzzyva
There are no options for this though under Tools > Options. It's very strange. I would have thought a reinstall would fix it but no joy. |

Here is the problem with Uninstalls/Reinstalls to solve a problem such as you are having: the registry remembers settings
(Incidently, this is why a basic uninstall/reinstall will not make a program you have on trial work work again--you have to clean out the registry to make the program "forget" you have used up your trial) What I do with uninstalls/reinstalls is use this FREE program, because it cleans out everything You will be asked what to clean out, so check everything Report back if this helps and we can go from there |
