Captions not appearing underneath figures

Hi,

When I insert a caption in my word document the caption will not appear under the figure. Instead it appears in a "text box" type box at the bottom of the page and I have to manually move it back up underneath the figure. All the captions are like this in the document.

would anybody know how I could fix this?
