We have a set of specifications that are provided by one of our clients that we use on all their jobs. The header in the documents gets updated with the project information per job (client job number, city, state, our job number.) There are upwards of 200 sections per job and the header is the same for every document. Is there some way to update all the headers without having to manually open and edit all 200+ sections? A paid solution is fine if someone knows of one. A $30 piece of software would pay for itself in about 10 minutes.

Hi
If you mean that there are upwards of 200 "Sections" per document and each section has the same header the as long as the header in each section is linked to the previous one then any changes made in the first Section will automatically update the linked headers. If you are talking about automatically updating the headers in multiple documents then you could create a master template with the headers contained therein. Then you create a separate Job Template where you link each field in the header to the Master template. Then any changes to the Master Template headers would be automatically replicated in each of the Job Documents. Hope this helps. If you need further assistance then let me know. Good luck. Tony |

Each 'section' is a separate document, meaning there are 200+ separate files that need updating.
i.e. 000000 - Project Manual Cover.doc 000101 - Title.doc 002113 - Instructions to Bidder.doc etc I'll look into the master template thing but some help will definitely be appreciated ![]() thanks for the reply! edit - the other big issue is that the section (file) names can't change and are sorted into sub-folders by Masterformat Spec Sections. This is a client requirement and they are extremely picky about it. (folder) 00 - Procurement & Contracting 000000 - Project Manual Cover.doc 000101 - Title.doc 002113 - Instructions to Bidder.doc (folder) 01 - General Requirements 010001 - etc 012106 - etc (folder) 02 - Existing Conditions 020325 - etc 023165 - etc and so on. |
