From what you've described it seems your wildcard Find/Replace should use:
Find = \(*[0-9]{4}*\) Replace = () - or perhaps nothing. You mention year dates beginning with '19', but what about '20'? If only year dates beginning the '19' are valid, then use: Find = \(*19[0-9]{2}*\)
