Default Clarification of the issue....... screenshots attached

This seems to only be happening in one particular document. To clarify what's happening I've attached a screenshot of the undo dropdown list (letter by letter) on this doc & one of the undo dropdown in a new doc (phrase by phrase).

The doc that's 'misbehaving' has several page & section breaks inserted & a lot of bulleted lists, using a custom multilevel list I created. Apart from that it's a normal docx, so i can't see how any of that could be related to the undo function being altered.

I can't find any setting or option choices anywhere for the undo function so I don't know how I can find what's been altered or how to reset it to default.

This makes it a real pain to undo anything more than a few letters, especially if I use Ctrl + Z. Any help much appreciated!

Edit: this only seems to be happening when I've got a footer in the doc (my name & page x of y). I copied the contents of the doc into a new doc & tested undo - it was fine, but as soon as i put in a footer the problem started again. What on earth.......?!?
