But now it redirects me back to the default location each time I try to insert a picture.

Does anyone have any further info on this problem?

When testing this again, I seem to be getting inconsistent results. :-( Sometimes it works as it used to in earlier versions of Word, and sometimes I get the result you described.

If I open an existing document that already has pictures in it and right click on one and select change picture, Word recognizes the previously used folder and consistently navigates to that folder.
But again if I insert a new picture using the Insert > Picture button it reverts to the default directory.
I am wondering if a recent update to Office has something to do with this issue as I have been using this version of Word with no problems for some months.
