![]() I've used Word 2007 for 3 years with no problems. The other day I opened it to write a letter. The page came up in page view, which I always use, with the cursor right against the top of the page. There were no upper and lower headers which I always had. I tried to set the upper margin with a standard margin setting and with a custom one and they never worked. I could insert headers and I tried to save it to the normal style like it always had been and then closed Word and reopened it. The same thing happened. I tried different things found in the help section and nothing would work. I put in my original MS Word disc and did the repair thing and it said one thing was repaired. BUT a new document would have no top margin or header. What can I do? Can I remove the Office program and re-install it? The disc was good for 3 separate installations which have been used on our 3 computers. Ham |

Go to Word Options|Display and check the 'Show whitespace between pages in Print Layout view' option.

Thank you Paul, it worked. But I still have a problem. When I was trying to straighten it all out before you told me how to do it I set up a custom margin with a 2" top margin. All new documents now open with the 2" margin. I change it in the margin setting to 1" and when I open a new doc it is still 2". I set it back to default and it is still 2"
I change the margin setting to Windows Normal, and it works for that doc. I set the style using the normal margin and close the doc. When I open a new doc I still have the 2" margin at the top. How can I delete the custom setting? Thanks again, Ham |

You will need to re-edit Word's 'Normal' template. The alternative, if your existing 'Normal' template has no customisations/macros you want to keep, is to close Word and delete the 'Normal' template. Word will create a new one when it starts. There is a sticky thread at the top of this forum that tells you where Word keeps such things.
